Those who have been following the smart glasses market will be familiar with Ray-Ban. They make glasses that allow you to take photos and videos, as well as make phone calls. They are available in a wide range of styles, and there is even a selection of prescription lenses to choose from.
Ray-Ban is owned by Luxottica, a company that also owns Prada, Burberry, Oliver Peoples, Chanel and others. The company has been working on its own wearable tech for a few years. It was originally codenamed “Stella” and was designed during a weeklong workshop.
At first glance, the glasses look like regular Ray-Bans. The only thing that identifies them as “Facebook” glasses is the logo on the box.
These glasses can be voice-activated to record videos and take photos. They have three microphones built into the frame. They also feature a touchpad on the frame for controlling playback.
The cameras on the frames collect data such as Wi-Fi connectivity and battery status. When a camera is in use, the built-in LED lights up to let others know that you are taking photos. You can also edit and share content with the Facebook View app.
The glasses can only be paired with one account at a time. If you switch phones, the content will be automatically deleted.

Taking a cue from Apple’s iPhone, Facebook has also gotten into the eyeball game. The augmented reality smartglasses are in the works but don’t show up just yet. Facebook executives visited the aforementioned research centre in the north of Italy and have been known to spend their days on the job. It’s not hard to see why. As a matter of fact, Facebook has more than a few execs in Redmond. A cursory scan of Facebook’s employee handbook indicates the company has well over 500 in the Pacific northwest. Of course, the company is also a major player in the cloud services arena, but that’s another story. For now, we’ll leave the aforementioned execs to their respective companies. It’s time to put their best foot forward and look forward to the future. It’s a new era, for one. Having said that, we still have a few years of work ahead of us. Hopefully, they won’t be the last ones standing. That’s a promise we intend to keep. If they do, we’ll see you in no time.
